For seven years I had not slept well AT ALL. Not even once. And when I had managed to dive into the blissful world of deep sleep, it was with the guiding hand of some drug, either prescription or otherwise. I always woke up with a headache and fatigued, headaches only beaten back with vigorous exercise. Nine times out of ten I would wake up in the very early hours, and could never fall back asleep without taking something I shouldn't have.
